CLERK’S REPORT  1 JUNE 2022

 Insurance

Unfortunately, the Hogsthorpe Parish Council’s renewal of insurance letter with Gallagher Ltd was received after the last meeting on 12 May 2022.  The cheque for this was then signed by Mary Banks and myself.  I sent this by first class recorded post to Gallaghers. We are now fully insured with Hogsthorpe Parish Council and the Playing Field. This was vital for the Jubilee celebrations.

Village Sign

My husband managed to dismantle the top of the village sign which was very heavy and we delivered this to Ridgequest in Croft so that we could obtain quotes for a new galvanised aluminium sign. I have been informed by RDR that a wooden sign will be very expensive and will not weather as well.  Unfortunately, RDR are behind in their work by 10 weeks.  We have been waiting about 6 weeks already.  Work cannot be started on the brick pier and a low brick wall until the wooden post is completed and fixed.  After this is done, the top of the sign can be fixed.  RDR informed us that they would do this.

Heritage Garden

I swept the area around the Heritage Garden and cleaned the benches.  I will ask the members of the Council if these should be varnished or painted as they need  improving as they will compliment the new Village Sign.  I cleaned the display Perspex in front of the information boards.  I placed Union Jack bunting, balloons and a banner and decorated the corner for the Jubilee celebrations.   The trees need cutting back as they are quite overgrown and add to the debris on the block paving.

 Grants

I have been collecting quotes so that I can send these in so that we can receive the S106 funding for the village sign, low brick wall, adult gym equipment and paint for the playpark.  I am also applying for                                             additional funding from the Jubilee fund.

Churchyard

I have received another complaint from a resident regarding overgrown trees and shrubs that are damaging fences on the borders of the adjoining property in the churchyard.  I would ask any members of the Council who could help in this matter and arrange a working party.  The alternative is to get quotes for the work which will be expensive.

AGM Meeting – Food

The non-perishable food, such as, tea, coffee, sugar etc. left over from the AGM will be used at the Jubilee celebrations which are being held on Sunday, 5th June 2022.  If raining, arrangements have been made by Amanda Green for it to be held in the Village Hall, Hogsthorpe at 12 – 5pm.

Flowers for AGM Speakers

I would just like to inform everyone that the Speaker, Christine Alexander did not ask for a fee for her attendance and Maureen Clarke who accompanied her used her vehicle for the journey to the meeting and did not ask for fuel money.  The Chairman thought the flowers would be a good way of saying ‘thank you’ for their time and effort in attending the AGM.
